Opening mid-December, [Maka Hiki Tropical Bar & Grill Maka Hiki is not an ordinary restaurant, it is an urban oasis that transports guests to a tropical escape in the quaint neighbourhood of Tai Hang. Hong Kong restaurateur Maxence Traverse, known for his revitalised ‘tiki chic’ concept, introduces his first Bar & Grill, inspired by island experiences reminiscent of the Caribbean and Polynesia, as well as the most beautiful beach towns and sanctuaries within the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia.
The space transforms from a wellness haven by day to the city’s hottest restaurant and cocktail bar by night, ensuring that there is something for everyone. With a sense of comfort and ease in the air, the interior features a visual feast of colours, tropical patterns, timber and bamboo, while the outdoor terrace is an oasis garden of lush greenery, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the picturesque surrounds while enjoying a bite to eat or drink.
At the helm of the jungle kitchen is Chef Russell Doctrove, well-known in Hong Kong for his creative menus at some of the city’s most iconic restaurants. The breakfast, lunch and dinner menus feature a wide selection of healthy and flavourful dishes that pack a punch. Signatures include the Hawaiian Style Tuna poke, Grilled Mahi Mahi, and a 48-hour Slow Cooked Beef Rib smothered in a tamarind jaew BBQ sauce. For those looking for something sweet, the Rice Pudding, slow cooked in coconut milk with vanilla and cardamom, is set to be a favourite. On the drink’s menu, in addition to the beautiful selection of rums, patrons can enjoy the delicious range of cocktails and punch bowls with the freshest ingredients that will remind diners of being on a beach in Bali, such as the Tik Tok Tiki, Dum Dum Give Me Rum Rum and Maka Hiki Punch.
