The rumble of engines and roar of the ocean greeted visitors to the 30th annual Gold Coast Motor Festival. Held at the scenic Hong Kong Gold Coast waterfront, the festival offered a spectacular gathering of prized automobiles and luxury yachts from local collectors and exhibitors from around the world.
Hong Kong Gold Coast, comprising the Gold Coast Yacht and Country Club, Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel and Gold Coast Piazza, transformed into a smorgasbord of car-inspired lifestyle and entertainment zones for the festival. Attractions included inflatable games and bumper cars for children, as well as the opportunity for all ages to admire exotic cars like the iconic McLaren F1 and rare Porsche 911 prototypes. Luxurious yachts between 8-29 metres sat dockside, adding further glamour to the scenic coastal setting.
The festival kicked off on Saturday 11 November with an opening ceremony attended by government officials including The Honourable Michael Wong, GBS, JP, Deputy Financial Secretary, HKSAR; The Honourable Kenneth Lau, SBS, MH, JP, Member of the Executive Council; The Honourable Kenneth Fok, JP, Member of the Legislative Council, and Nikki Ng, Non-Executive Director of Sino Group.
In his remarks, Michael Wong praised the festival for its contributions to the local community through charitable donations generated from ticket sales. He also welcomed international guests, hoping they would spread the word about Hong Kong’s vibrant culture and hospitality.
“Hong Kong Gold Coast is celebrating its 30th anniversary, which makes it the perfect time to present such an international and enjoyable event for the Hong Kong public, visitors from mainland China and all around the world,” said Nikki Ng. She went on to thank sponsors, exhibitors, and volunteers for their roles in growing the Gold Coast Motor Festival into one of Asia’s premier celebrations of automotive and yachting heritage.
A celebration for all
In addition to approximately 100 classic and collectible cars on display, this year’s festival partnered with The Community Chest of Hong Kong to promote inclusiveness and social awareness through a Charity Drive. On Saturday morning, 30 cars departed on a journey from The Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel to the festival site, raising funds for local social services. Underprivileged families were also invited by various NGOs to participate in this meaningful ride by taking an open-top bus and spending a wonderful weekend at the festival.
Over the weekend festivalgoers delighted in the cars, entertainment, local cuisine and came away having experienced the twin passions of automobiles and boating in a celebratory atmosphere by the picturesque Hong Kong shores. The 30th edition of Gold Coast Motor Festival roared to a close on Sunday 12 November after another successful outing. Until next time!
