The ASEAN Film Festival 2024 introduces over 20 free film screenings and around 10 sharing sessions. Enthusiastic response received with only limited tickets still available on official website.
The ASEAN Film Festival (AFF) 2024, organised by the Hong Kong ASEAN Foundation (HKAF), is introducing films from all 10 ASEAN countries to Hong Kong for the first time in a single festival running from 5 to 28 September. Public response to the festival has been overwhelmingly positive with only limited free tickets still available, as free tickets for most filming screening sessions have been fully redeemed. The festival will kick off with an opening ceremony and a screening event at the Hong Kong Palace Museum on Thursday, 5 September, where representatives from the government and affiliated organisations, Consulates-general of the 10 ASEAN countries, partners and supporting organisations will gather with film enthusiasts and young people to celebrate the cinematic diversity of ASEAN.
The ceremony will be attended by distinguished guests, including the Honourable Michael WONG Wai-lun, GBS, JP, Acting Financial Secretary of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Mrs Ainatol Zahayu Mohammad, Dean of the ASEAN Consuls-General and Consul-General of Brunei Darussalam in Hong Kong, Mr Nicholas Ho Lik-chi, Commissioner for Belt & Road, the Government of HKSAR, Mr Bernard Charnwut Chan, GBM, GBS, JP, HK-ASEAN Foundation Advisory Council Member, Mr Daryl Ng, SBS, JP, Chairman of Hong Kong-ASEAN Foundation, and the Consuls-General or representatives of Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, along with representatives from co-presenters, venue partners and supporting organisations of AFF 2024.
Showcasing ASEAN’s cinematic prowess to deepen cultural exchange
Films from ASEAN countries have been gaining popularity in Asia and international markets, with many films, filmmakers, and artists from the region receiving prestigious recognition for their work. AFF 2024 will highlight a diverse lineup of over 20 films. Filmmakers of around 10 films will join sharing sessions and meet with local youth and students from ASEAN in Hong Kong, while some of them will also invite local Hong Kong film industry professionals such as the director of ‘Still Human’, Oliver Chan and the director of ‘Hong Kong Family’, Eric Tsang.
The first of these sharing sessions will take place after the AFF 2024 opening ceremony, featuring the critically acclaimed Thai film, ‘How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies.’ This session will be attended by the film’s representatives, including Mrs. Usha Seamkhum, the film’s leading actress; Mr Pat Boonnitipat, the Director; Mr Thodsapon Thiptinnakorn, the Script Writer; and Ms Jina Osothsilp, CEO of GDH 559, one of Thailand’s largest film studios, who will share their insights and anecdotes with the audience members.
AFF is a collaborative endeavour involving HKAF, the Consulates-General of ASEAN countries in Hong Kong, and other esteemed partners, including the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency, M+, Asia Society Hong Kong Center, Belt and Road office, Financial Services Development Council, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Invest Hong Kong, Our Hong Kong Foundation, and all the chambers and associations.
