Showcasing China’s pivotal role on the global design stage, Design China Beijing this year went the extra mile by positioning itself as a social and trade event, raising awareness on sustainability related issues. Design is regarded as a regenerative force that can play a crucial part in bettering our ecosystem and these pivotal themes were debated during the show’s world renowned Design Forum, with presentations investigating the transformative power of design, its role and response to building a sustainable future in a post-pandemic world.
The four-day event, which took place 24-27 September 2021, invited the industry’s largest concentration of architectural and design thought leaders to share their ideas and exchange global perspectives on this edition’s theme “Regenerative Design”. Conveying over 30 design icons, global industry leaders, visionaries, and innovators, Design China Beijing’s thought leadership platform addressed the show’s theme through design disciplines from across the world.
Among the influential speakers at the event were Stirling prize-winner Amanda Levete of AL-A Architects; designer and artist Morag Myerscough – whose graphic approach to 3D and architectural design is characterised by a bold use of colour patterns; Satoshi Ohashi of Zaha Hadid Architects; Dean and Professor of Architecture at Tsinghua University Zhang Li; and multi-disciplinary product and interaction designer Satyendra Pakhalé – who explored the cultural shift towards regenerative design around the world.
